Contemporary Moroccan Music – The movement
Boohalee, Darga, Hoba Hoba Spirit, Syndicat, Kashla, Casa Crew, the list is quite long and these groups use different means to throw their message out there: hip hop, rock, reggae and roots like gnawa or lyrics from Abderrahman El Majdoub.

What’s surprising is that all these bands have emerged after the year 2000. It feels like there was a huge jump from Nas el Ghiwan, Lemchaheb.. to this new ways of expression. No transitory phase but an abrupt change of directions.
The question that one might ask is why now and what happened that made more young people interested in these new form of expression. Let’s think about it and discuss it further in coming posts.
